Worship

There are further changes to worship from 1st September.

Please visit our Worship Page  for details.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH, 6 PM

Worshipping with the Iona Community, led by Jonathan Robinson.
This will be live in the sanctuary only, not livestreamed.

An opportunity to spend an hour or so learning new songs and hearing a little of the experiences of a Methodist boy who ran away to the Hebrides. We’ll conclude with a short evening liturgy drawn from the Iona Abbey Worship book.

Visit to the New Room Bristol

The last church newsletter had an item from Barbara Hickman (p17) about a possible visit to the New Room in Bristol in October;  this would link well with the current Methodist Way of Life series of worship at SMC.  Barbera asks that anyone interested should get in touch with her by the end of August, please.

Prayers for our sister church in Zambia,St John’s, Mtendere

Give thanks for the peaceful transition to a new president and party in government, and pray that they will achieve the good things they hope to deliver.

Give thanks that our fellowships can be maintained digitally, even when we cannot meet in person because of COVID regulations.

Pray for the vaccination programme and for a continuing fall in the number of deaths from COVID.

Notices for Sunday 15th August

Changes…

Following a meeting of the Restart group, it has been decided that from this Sunday, the wearing of masks during worship will no longer be mandatory, although still strongly recommended.

Please wear your mask when moving about the sanctuary and then remove it once seated if you so wish.

If you have been isolating and wish to sit distanced from others please sit in the area of the sanctuary farthest from the entrance .

In the next week or so, most of the seats are being reset to their original positions.

It is hoped to serve coffee in the hall, following the morning service, from the first week in September.

Revd Michael Franklin

Michael’s funeral service will take place here at SMc on Friday 20th August at 2pm followed by the committal at Salisbury Crematorium.

Please hold Jenny, Sarah and John, and family in your prayers.

Prayers for our sister church in Zambia,St John’s, Mtendere

This week is the fiercely contested General Election in Zambia, so the prayers St John’s have asked us to pray this coming Sunday are:
As we pray for peaceful and fair elections on Thursday, 12th August, we pray for peace and unity when the results are published, whoever will be President, in government and in Parliament.
Pray too for unity within our church and congregation, following our text for this year: “ALL ONE IN CHRIST”.

Finally an appeal..

As COVID restrictions are being relaxed we can now produce the weekly printed notice sheet again. John Forster is stepping down from his role as editor of the notices. We are therefore looking for someone to step into this post. If you are willing and able to take on this important part of church life please contact  either Valerie Liversidge or Jim Gillings.

Give thanks that COVID cases and deaths are falling and that we are now celebrating Holy Communion together again.

Give thanks also that section Bible Studies can meet again, and pray for section elders leading those meetings.

Pray for school pupils and teachers as classes resume this week for pupils preparing for public examinations. (Public exams are in November/December; pupils have lost a lot of time because of COVID.)
