New(ish!) to SMc? Welcome to the family!

‘Compass’ is valuable for those new to the Methodist church, those who have been coming for a long time and want to try to make some sense of things and for long-time Methodists who want to re-energise their discipleship.

Please contact Anna if you are interested, and together we will work out the best time and means of gathering. At the end of the course there will be the opportunity to be received into membership.

If you have come to SMc from another Methodist church and would like to transfer your membership, please contact Anna. We will hold a service to welcome all new and transferring members soon.

TakeTime Together A six-week Lenten journey

TakeTime meditations are a perfect way to find calm and peace in the busy-ness of life.  If you haven’t tried TakeTime before, you’re in for a treat. We’ll be using ‘TakeTime’ meditations to lead us in time and thought through the events of Holy Week leading up to and including Jesus’ crucifixion.

When:  Weekly on Tuesdays starting 1 March to 5 April  from 14:00 to 15:00

Prayers for our sister church, St John’s, Mtendere, Zambia

The Youth Christian Fellowship at St John’s ask for our prayers, giving thanks for the Prayer and Fasting day on Saturday, chaired by our minister, Rev Godfrey Gama, and praying for spiritual growth and evangelism.

Our Sunday morning all age service is at 10:30am and is led by Revd Anna Bishop

This service is also one of our  ‘a Methodist Way of Life’ themed services.

Please join us either in person or online, all are welcome.

If you watch at home, we will be sharing a Love Feast, and so you may like to prepare a small piece of “plain cake” (John Wesley’s suggestion!) or something similar so that they can share the feast with those in the Sanctuary. As this is all age worship, you may also like to gather paper, pencils and scissors, and join in any craft activities.

A prayer for Ukraine (from the Methodist Church)

Dear Lord, Author of all peace who through your son reconciled us to yourself, we pray for peace in our world at a time of heightened tensions.

We pray –

for our governments and political leaders – for wise counsel and sound initiative to defuse tension

for diplomats – that they may have space to negotiate;

for the people of Ukraine – that their close ties with the people of Russia and other neighbours will remain strong even in the face of military threat.

We pray that all governments commit time to dialogue and understanding, respect the will and freedom of all peoples, invest in welfare and alleviation of poverty and reject militarism and the threat of violence.

May Christ’s teaching and example be our inspiration, may hearts and minds be changed, and may your holy spirit be at work transforming each of us day by day,

Through your everlasting grace and mercy  Amen

Prayers for our sister church, St John’s, Mtendere, Zambia

Pray for the people suffering because of Tropical Storm Ana, which is flooding and destroying homes and crops in Zambia, and pray for our efforts to help the victims.

Pray for the 17 people killed and others injured when a United Church bus crashed on Thursday coming to Lusaka.

At St John’s, pray for our church finance committee meeting, for wisdom when funds are short.
